This page is under development while I work on putting together a comprehensive package of workshops for you; in the meantime, you are welcome to read a short bio about how I began teaching photography:

TAKE YOUR BEST SHOTS
 Workshops:

I teach informal yet fact and fun-filled In-The-Field photography workshops. I primarily work in outdoor settings so that you can get the most out of your time spent with me by exposing you to a wide variety of ‘real world’ lighting and conditions.

I concentrate on a few fundamental and often overlooked powerful basics about the camera, believing that without proper and effective technical knowledge, a photographer will often miss the essence of many (if not most!) of your shots.

I focus on making you the best photographer I can with your equipment in a relatively short time so you can get out and Take Better Shots!

I do this primarily by focusing on these areas:

Exposure Compensation Value: (E/V): Ho w to use it for the best exposures in almost all lighting conditions. And what to do when almost nothing works!

Depth of field: I give an on-camera demonstration that is often a significant eye-opener for my students who have struggled to understand depth of field for a long time.

Composition: Without good composition, even technically proficient photographs often lose their potential impact. I show you the ‘rules’ of composition and many creative ways to bend them to your personal taste as well.

Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority, and ISO Settings: How to use them in a wide variety of situations to your advantage. What all those settings on your camera mean and are used for.
Hint: I never use any of my Auto Modes for anything at all. I highly prefer to have more much control over my photography, and you will too when you finish my workshop! It is much easier to do do than most of my students have been led to believe.

And Much More: Bring your most pressing photographic challenges and questions and I will try and answer them, often by showing you how to work with them in the field.

WORKSHOP SPECIAL:

Sign up 5 or more friends and or co-workers and you will get in for free!

The more people that sign up the less each individual pays for the workshop.

HOW DID I GET STARTED? Glad You ASKED:

In the spring of 1993, I was a new arrival living in Crested Butte, Colorado, and basically on a whim and a ‘why not-it can’t hurt’ approach, I began teaching photography workshops for the Crested Butte Wildflower Festival.

This was so much fun that I have successfully continued to lead several different and popular in-the-field workshops to all levels of photographers every July for the past 15 years, with many sold out workshops; much to my delight and surprise! I admit that my first few years were pretty lean, but I did not give up, and in the last few seasons I have have as many as 112 students for the week.!

The 3 workshops that I currently teach are: “Take Your Best Shots”, “Compelling Composition”, and “The Alleys and Architecture of Crested Butte”, with different ones being added and experimented with nearly every year. Teaching ‘in the field’ photography workshops has become a favorite avenue of expression for myself, and I am an ardent supporter of the belief that a good instructor is always learning from their students as well…This brings necessary humility and openness on my part to the workshops, which I believe allows participants to authentically open up their own inner artistic vision and photographic potential.

I have also taught successful a seasonal field workshop “Push Your Camera To The Max” for Colorado Free University based in Denver, CO.

I am available for private and group workshops, please contact me for pricing and dates/times, and for whatever else you need to know or ask....

Lets go play in the field of light!
